I HATE EARTH HOUR

Friday, March 27th, 2009

i hate earth hour, i hate the whole “global warming” bull, i hate it all. just because you turn your lights off for one hour isn’t going to make up for the fact that you blast the heat in the winter and the AC in the summer. it’s all hypocrisy.

you can bet your hind-end that i won’t be turning off any lights for earth hour.

when will everyone realize that this is all a big scam?

in the media.

below is an article in which i was interviewed regarding my website. while i was at work, i happened to hear that google went “dark” in support of earth hour. not sure if it was today or last week all i know is that just made me want to turn one more light ON.

i’m planning something special for earth day and no it isn’t killing children’s dreams, baby seals and kittens but i got a feeling i’ll be hammered for it anyway.

so, here’s the article:

Cities worldwide go dark for Earth Hour 2008

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As the clock struck 8 p.m. in Goa, India, Ruben Quadros turned off all of the lights in his home.  The darkness that followed would normally indicate that everyone has gone to bed, but on this particular night, that was not the case.

As the calming dark of the evening flooded into the room, Ruben sat down quietly with his daughter.  They stayed this way for the next hour that followed.

With no intention of turning the lights back on until 9 p.m., Ruben and his daughter filled the darkened room not with light, but with conversation.

The evening’s conversation topic looked towards the future as they discussed the events of global warming and what is causing it in the world today.  They did this in participation of Earth Hour 2008.

Ruben and his family were some of millions that are participated in the global event known as Earth Hour, which took place March 29, 2008, at 8 p.m. local time all across the globe.

Earth Hour 2008 was developed by the World Wildlife Foundation in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 and has since then, grown into a worldwide movement.

The motives behind Earth Hour are to raise awareness about the impact that we have on our environment by advocating change and reducing energy consumption.  It was planned to be simple so that anyone anywhere in the world can participate if they choose to.

To participate in Earth Hour, all one needed to do was simply wait until the clock read 8 p.m. and turn off all of the lights in the house, and any other major appliance desired, for one hour.

On March 31, 2007, 2.2 million people, including 2,100 businesses, turned off their lights for one hour.  This reduced Sydney’s energy consumption by 10.2 percent for one hour, which had the same affect as taking 48,616 cars off the road.

As for Ruben, this was enough motivation to participate in 2008.  He believes that all of our differences can come together for one simple cause.

“We gotta show each other that we all care about our earth,” Ruben said.  “One world, one people…maybe different nationalities, different religions [and] races, but ultimately one people on one world.”

This year, as the event went global, many major cities, including Toronto and Tel Aviv; businesses, such as Google and Hewlett-Packard; and celebrities, such as Nelly Furtado and Fall Out Boy, were advocating the cause.

Of course, there are some that were against supporting Earth Hour saying that global warming is only a theory.

According to Matt Watts, creator of the website Carbononsets.com, Earth Hour was a waste of time.  He says that climate change is as natural as tides and the phases of the moon.

“It seems like it would have the same effect as a gas boycott; it just won’t matter,” said Watts.  “To me, global warming is just a fad that will pass in time.”

Others who share his viewpoint claimed to participate in Earth Hour by leaving lights on, running major appliances and driving diesel-fueled trucks.

“Earth Hour, to me, is more a display of being ashamed of what we’ve created and how far we’ve come,” said Watts.

Regardless of your opinion of Earth Hour, according to Peter Garrett, Australia’s environment minister, it cannot be denied that turning off carbon-emitting appliances saves money by reducing energy and electricity costs.

Stefanie Rumsey, a freshman at Purdue University, said that while she forgot to participate in it this year, she looks forward to Earth Hour 2009.

“I would probably turn off all electricity that I wasn’t using or didn’t need to because an hour really isn’t long when you think about it,” said Rumsey.

Although no Indiana cities officially registered as participating in the event, businesses and citizens have decided to take a stand and participate throughout the Midwest.

Across the local Midwest, McDonald’s has agreed to turn off the lights from their signature golden arches for one hour.

In the U.S., Chicago even turned off all “non-essential exterior” lights in the Sears Tower, John Hancock Center, Wrigley Field and 200 other downtown buildings.   Chicago was one of several major U.S. cities that decided to participate.

Other major participating U.S. cities include: Atlanta, Phoenix, Honolulu, Denver, St. Louis and San Francisco.

While it may be a while before we learn of the total impact Earth Hour 2008 had on the world, it can be seen as the start of a call to action by citizens of the world to unite for change.

my thoughts on “earth hour”

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

you are all crazy.

not the people that read the blog because we’re the only sane one’s left in this world.

incase you don’t know what earth hour is:
basically it’s a time frame where everyone turns off their lights, electricity and whatever else as a sign to show that global climate change is real.

you know what you… climate change is real! just like the phases of the moon and the tides and even the weather. of course the climate is going to change. we’re constantly moving. we have ice ages and warm periods and everything else. it isn’t caused by our cars, our buildings, our livestock or anything else.

you know what… i have an idea.

earth day is april 22. let’s all do something as global warming causing activists to show everyone that we can make a difference to.

send me your thoughts on what to do. right now. hurry. go.
